Teishoku

Jump to: navigation, search

Teishoku (定食) refers to a traditional Japanese eating style, especially in restaurants; it basically means "set meal." The basic elements of any teishoku meal are: main dish, rice, miso soup, and tsukemono (assorted Japanese pickles). The main dish is often simply a fried fish, but can be anything; this will also change according to the kind of restaurant. A tonkatsu restaurant, for example, may offer a fried pork cutlet as the main dish.
