About GEOS for Children
GEOS has its own publishing house and education department. Therefore, the curriculum, materials and texts used within our schools are unique to GEOS.
Following an intensive training period of one and a half weeks, teaching begins in one of our numerous schools located around Japan. Teachers' working hours may be from 10am-6pm, 11am-7pm, 12pm-8pm, or 1pm-9pm, depending on their class schedules. This 8-hour day includes a one-hour lunch break and lesson preparation time, with a maximum of 6 classes per day. While teaching experience is considered an asset, it is by no means necessary. We employ teachers from a vast range of disciplines who hold a degree or certified diploma. A desire to succeed and a love for children of all ages will take you a long way!
Remuneration
Training
Bi-annual training sessions are provided for all teachers.A correspondence training course is sent out prior to departure. Upon arrival in Japan, at least one and a half weeks of intensive training is provided prior to commencing work. A national training session and follow-up training are also provided throughout the year.
Accommodation
GEOS will arrange for a basic, single-occupancy, furnished apartment. Rent and utilities are the responsibility of the teacher. However, the provision of rental assistance guarantees that teachers will pay no more than ¥50,000 rent per month. GEOS apartments are generally located close to public transport services. Further, all commuting expenses to and from work are covered.
Monthly Salary
The monthly base salary is ¥250,000 per month including ¥30,000 overseas living allowance. GEOS teachers pay an average of 10% income and residential tax.
Bonus System
In addition to the monthly base salary, GEOS for Children offers a unique salary advancement system. Teachers with a heavy workload are eligible for this special bonus system, providing the capacity to earn up to ¥275,000 per month. A very generous starting salary! In addition to this salary advancement system, teachers will receive a bonus for each new student they sign up. Upon completion of the 12-month contract, teachers are also eligible for a departing bonus.
Holidays
Four weeks of paid holidays are available, plus Japanese National Holidays, during the first contract year. Additional holidays are available in subsequent contract years.
Health Insurance
GEOS provides health and accident insurance which covers basic medical care while employed by GEOS in Japan. This coverage is only valid while you are in Japan, not in other countries. Dental, maternity, vision and pre-existing conditions are not covered.

How will GEOS for Children look after me?
GEOS for Children promises to provide you with all the support you need to make your stay in Japan feel safe and comfortable, commencing when we we meet you at the airport. We will arrange for a single-occupancy apartment and provide you with basic household goods and appliances. We will also help you obtain alien registration and set you up with a bank account.
Can I choose where I will be placed?
GEOS for Children needs to fill vacancies as they arise. Therefore, there is no guarantee where a teacher will be placed. However, due to the rapid expansion of the company and the need for more and more native English speakers, we certainly take your preference of placement into account and do our best to accommodate your request.
Can I teach Worldwide?
Yes! In order to be eligible to teach in one of GEOS' International English Conversation Schools, you must successfully complete at least two years of contracted work with GEOS in Japan.
How long are your Interview Sessions?
Two full days. We do not hire sight unseen. We believe that it is mutually beneficial that we exchange as much information as possible. This way, both parties are able to make a much more informed decision regarding employment in Japan.
Do I need a University Degree to apply?
The Japanese Immigration Department prefers applicants to have a university degree. However two- or three-year diplomas may also be accepted, especially if the applicant has previous experience relevant to teaching children. NO TESOL or TEFL certificate is required to teach with GEOS for Children. We employ energetic people from various backgrounds who share a love of children.
Does GEOS pay for my flight to Japan?
No. However, upon completion of a 12-month contract, GEOS will provide a departing bonus which can be used for a return flight home.
What career opportunities exist within GEOS for Children?
Native English speakers have been a relatively new introduction to GEOS for Children (first introduced in 1997). Therefore, many opportunities exist for career advancement. Possible areas to develop into are training, publishing, substitute teaching (travel all over Japan for free!), personnel and administration. In order to advance into one of these exciting positions, all you need is a strong desire to succeed and to have completed one contracted year of teaching.
